Pannonia Bio Gas Aquisition

Pannonia Bio Gas Aquisition

Pannonia Bio Zrt., Central-Europe’s leading grain-processing facility, acquired Slovenia’s largest operating biogas plant in in the Pomurska region in February 2021. The company will operate as Pannonia Bio Gas d.o.o. to continue biogas production at the 4MW/hour facility and technology improvements to reduce waste and maximise production. The assets and operations of two companies, Teratron and BioElekt of Križevci pri Ljutomeru, have been purchased to secure the plant acquisition.

Pannonia Bio currently operates the largest single source biorefinery in Europe. Its Hungarian operation is one of the most efficient refineries in the world and has a mission to mitigate climate change. With this acquisition Pannonia Bio diversifies its renewable energy activities, adding biogas production in Slovenia to its business. Along with its existing workforce, an experienced Pannonia Bio Gas team will run the Pomurska plant. More Slovenian biogas plant acquisitions by Pannonia Bio are expected in 2021.

Pannonia Bio’s overall success is based on a continuous multi-million Euro performance-based investment program. “We are very pleased to enter both the biogas sector and the Slovenian market through the Križevci acquisition,” said Eric Sievers, Investment Director of the group. “Slovenia offers a unique platform on which to test new climate change mitigation technologies and further demonstrate our commitment to zero waste.”

Pannonia Bio has expanded its engineering expertise in ethanol production to diversify into additional renewable energy product streams. The biogas production methods applied at Pannonia Bio Gas will employ new methods for utilising and eliminating residual wastes from (a diverse range of) biogas feedstocks. The Pomurska biogas plants will utilise novel biological methods for improving biogas production performance as well as mechanical pre- and post-treatment technologies that together reduce greenhouse gasses (GHG’s) as well as both solid and liquid waste volumes.
